New Hams

Under Construction Forever

If you are a new Ham you are probably wondering "Where do I go from here?"  Not surprisingly, Amateur Radio encompasses a vast array of things to do, and ways to do them.  Nearly everyone who starts out with the Technician Class license begins with VHF/UHF repeater operation.  There's lots to do there and some stay there forever.  But FM radio represents only a tiny fraction of what's available.

Let's start with operating on repeaters.  Here is a Link to a great page written by  Dave Schultheis WB6KHP of San Jose. Lots of information here to get you started.

A couple of other helpful links are The ARRL web site ARRL.org where you can find information on operating, defining different modes, band plans and much more.

Another helpful site is like a giant surplus store; it's got everything you could possibly want but it's really disorganized.  You can spend lots of time here, but if it's information you want go to http://www.ac6v.com/

If you still have questions that you can't find answers to, or if you need local information, drop me an email n6xn@arrl.net. If I can't answer your question I know a couple of really smart guys who probably can.
