Welcome to the Silverado Amateur Radio Society (SARS) online newsletter. We hope to provide you with the latest happenings in the Club and in Amateur Radio in general in a timely manner. Our objective is to provide a "live" newsletter that will be updated throughout the month as events occur. When an item is added it will be flagged with this symbol:

All contributions (news, not monetary) will be gladly accepted. Submit your offerings via email to: John, N6XN's email

Do you have a photograph you'd like to share? An item you want to sell? An announcement of an upcoming event? We'd like to hear about it. Naturally, we prefer Ham Radio oriented material, but other genres might be considered.

Winlink 2000 Telpac Gateway.  Now operating on 145.030 1200 Baud Packet.  See the details at WL2K This can be a useful way to move written traffic from a few feet to thousands of miles.  The equipment can be as simple as a laptop computer and a handheld radio.

Repeater Report.  The transmitting antenna on the tower at the Mount Veeder site has been changed out to one with 3 degrees downtilt.  This has made a noticeable difference in receive signal strength in some areas.  We expect other areas to notice stronger or  weaker signals on 441.800 mHz.  Please let us know how it sounds to you as you travel through the coverage area.  Areas of particular interest include Counties of Sacramento, Lake, Sonoma and Contra Costa.

National SOS Radio Network  A wacky idea or Stroke of Genius?  You decide.  This subject first surfaced earlier this year and elicited hundreds of responses on discussion forums all over the net.  You can still find lots of comments on EHam .  Read up on the subject at The National SOS Network  What's Your opinion? Sound off and I'll print your response. mailto:The Editor
