The W6CO/R system: Mt Veeder

Updated 9/20/07

New Cabinet Project

There's never enough room.  When we first put the system together it seemed like there was plenty of space for everything.  But in the few short years that we have occupied the Mt Veeder location we've run out of usable space.

With WiFi, APRS, and myriad other equipment the existing cabinets are just too small.  Ron, W6BIS has acquired a new cabinet from a local "transportation company" and is in the process of refurbishing it.  When he is satisfied, we will haul it up to the repeater site and replace the existing cabinets with the new one.  This will require a shut down of all the existing facilities that are there now.

Here's a shot of the existing cabinet cluster right after it was installed. Click on the photo to see a larger view. Here's a shot of the replacement cabinet. The relay rack inside will hold all of the existing equipment with plenty of  room left for future pieces.  The space beside the relay rack will hold other non-rack mounted equipment such as filter cavities. The new cabinet is not only wider than most electronics cabinets it's also deeper.  This cabinet is equipped with doors on both sides for easy access to the equipment.
No comment The cabinet at N6XN's body and fender shop. The doors were removed and the whole thing pressure washed Air intake ports are cut into the base. Double wall steel, 12 gauge!
Exhaust fan "windows" are cut into the sides. Fan mount brackets welded into place Finished and ready for equipment to be installed.
Intake fans on the floor. Exhaust fans on the sides.  All fans will be thermostatically controlled. A couple of the dents were so deep I couldn't get them out even with a 16 lb sledge hammer!  This is one tough cabinet.
